PAL Cadets


The San Francisco Police Activities League Law Enforcement Cadet Program
is currently accepting applications for PAL Cadets. The purpose of the
PAL Cadet Program is to provide an opportunity for young men and women
between the ages of 14 and 21, to see first hand, all phases of Law
Enforcement, while fostering better relations between young people and
the Police Department, through direct personal contact. Should you

ARRESTS OF INTEREST:


March 3, 2009-Possession of Gun by a prohibited person, Probation
Violation, Gang Related-4:17pm-4000 blk of 3RD ST-CN#090227913:

Members of the Tactical Plainclothes Unit were conducting violence
reduction operations in the area of 3rd and Kirkwood in response to
recent high levels of gang activity. The officers saw a known
individual standing with a group of subjects, in front of a liquor
store. The individual saw officers approach and immediately walked into
the liquor store. Sgt. Benzinger followed the subject inside the store
and watched as the subject placed an object on a shelf. Officers
detained the subject and searched the area, locating a loaded firearm on
the shelf. Officers placed the suspect under arrest without incident.

March 3, 2009-Warrant Arrest, Outside Jurisdiction-9:15pm-900 blk of
Innes-CN#090628927:

Officers Borgen and Officer Chiang responded to a call of shots fired on
Innes Avenue. Headquarters advised that there were approximately six
shots heard. Officers spoke with a reportee who stated that one of the
shots had gone through her window. Officers then saw two subjects
walking down the stairs near the area where the gun shots were heard.
Officers detained the subjects, but were unable to confirm any
involvement in the shooting. One of the subjects, who had an
outstanding warrant for his arrest, was placed into custody without
incident. No one was injured during the shooting.

March 3, 2009-Warrant Arrest, Heroin
Offense-6:48pm-3rd/Newcomb-CN#090228369:

Members of Bayview’s plain clothes team were in the area of 3rd/Newcomb,
when they saw a subject they know, drinking a bottle of beer in front of
the liquor store. Officers spoke with the subject and discovered an
outstanding warrant for his arrest. The suspect was placed under arrest
for the warrant and for the suspected heroin officers discovered on him.


INCIDENTS OF INTEREST:


March 3, 2009- Aggravated Assault w/force, Breaking Window-4:24pm-1100
blk of Ingerson-CN#090227991:

Officers Williams and Whitfield responded to the 1100 blk of Ingerson
regarding a report of vandalism involving a knife. Officers spoke with
the reportee who stated that he was inside of a house that he was
repairing for the property owners, when a former tenant came inside the
house. The reportee stated that the ex-tenant took out a large knife,
began swinging at the reportee and then pushed him towards the front
door in an attempt to get him out of the house. The reportee fled from
the house in fear of the ex-tenant and did not return until he saw the
suspect leave the house. Upon his return, the reportee saw that the
suspect had broken all the windows in the house. Officers were unable
to locate the suspect. No one was injured during the incident.

March 3, 2009-Malicious Mischief, Vandalism to Property-1:45am-100 blk
of Tunnel-CN#090228115:

Officer McArthur and Officer Reiter responded to Tunnel Ave regarding a
report of vandalism. Officers spoke with the reportee who stated that a
known suspect had placed glue inside the lock of the gate to her house.
The reportee also stated that because of the glue in the lock, the gate
would no longer operate. The reportee told police that she believes the
incident occurred due to her owing the suspect money. The suspect was
not located.

March 2, 2009-Tampering with fire protection equiptment-2:00pm-Conkling
St.-CN#090226313:

School Resource Officer Richards cited a student for pulling the fire
alarm at school. The witness told Officer Richards that he saw the
student running from the lunch room shortly after the alarm went off.
Officer Richards admonished the student regarding pulling the fire
alarm, which she fully confessed to doing. Officer Richards met with
the student and her mother and informed her that the student would be
placed under arrest and sent to C.A.R.C. Center. The student was cited
and released from C.A.R.C.

Graffiti Alert: $250.00 Reward Program

Day Watch Sergeant, Ava Garrick, is Bayview Station’s Graffiti Abatement
coordinator. Each month she collects surveys from the various beat
officers to report graffiti to DPW and our own Graffiti Unit within the
police department. You can contact Sgt. Ava Garrick at ava.garrick
@sfgov.org.

311 Customer Service Center:
What is 311? 311 is a toll free, NON-EMERGENCY phone number that the
public can call to access information about government services. A live
customer service representative will be available 24 hours a day, seven
days a week, and 365 days a year. The service is available to both wired
and wireless customers. Wireless customers should call (415) 701-2311.
311 employees will be able to provide translations services in more than
145 languages and dialects and will employ a diverse staff of customer
service representatives. TTY users and customers outside San Francisco
should dial 415-701-2323.
