3rd Annual Take-A-Kid Fishing/Safety Fair comes to Northern California!
SACRAMENTO, Ca. - The 3rd annual Take-A-Kid Fishing event returns to northern California Saturday, August 29th, at Folsom Lake, bringing with it added fun for kids that will participate – a GIGANTIC kid’s fun and safety fair!
That’s right…in addition to the great fun to be had fishing with mom or dad, the free premium rod, reel, and tackle boxes that will be given out to the first 100 kids that sign up, the trophies awarded to the biggest fish of each species, and the free lunch and participation awards given to all kids that come out, the Future Pro Tour will also host a kid’s fun and safety fair that should not be missed!
Several community and corporate entities have pledged their support for this event to help make it both a fun and memorable day for kids as they wind down their summer vacations. Some of the activities for this fun day at the lake include:
Take-A-Kid Fishing
Participation in the fishing portion of this event is only $35 per child and includes a premium rod,reel and tackle box (first 100 signups), FREE lunch, onsite help with bait rigging (for those of you that are squimish), free bait/terminal tackle, a participation award, plus access to the Fun and Safety Fair.
Fishing (both bank and boat divisions) starts at 6:30am and ends at 12:30pm, and features two age divisions: 3-10 years old and 11-15 years old. Trophies for the single biggest fish of each species in each division will be awarded.
A FREE “How To” fishing clinic will be hosted on Aug 28th the evening before the event, from 4-7pm at Fishermen’s Warehouse in Sacramento, where kids can get information from top pro anglers on what baits and rigs to use on Folsom Lake to help them catch all species of fish. You can also at that time, sign your child up for Saturday’s event so they can be sure to receive their FREE rod/reel/tackle box courtesy of Shakespeare, Pure Fishing, and Plano (a $75.00 value). But remember ….only the first 100 kids that sign-up will receive this FREE gift!
Fun and Safety Fair - (open to ALL KIDS even if they don’t participate in the fishing portion)
South Placer Fire District in conjunction with Fireman’s Fund Insurance will have their 20 foot Adventure Safety Trailer (ASK) onsite to help educate kids about all types of safety subjects such as bicycle safety, water safety, and internet safety just to mention a few. As they educate the kids on safety, they will be handing out tons of free prizes and literature on safety.
In addition, South Placer Fire District will have on display, some of the working fire engines in their fleet, accompanied by a 60 foot “jump house” – shaped like a fire engine for kids to play in!
National Center for Child Safety and Awareness will have their trailer on site to provide FREE Child Safety kits that include biometric finger printing, digital photographs, and a DNA kit with Child Safety Journal. This is an expensive but invaluable tool in helping keep your child safe so you don’t want to miss out on this opportunity provided to you FREE of charge.
In addition, the following Placer County agencies will also be on hand to help emphasize child safety:
- Placer County Sheriff dept’s – Two Cal-Star rescue helicopters
- Placer County Sheriff dept’s - K9 team
- Placer County Sheriff dept’s - Swat Team
- CHP Rollover display vehicle
Radio Disney and Department of Boating and Waterway Safety will be onsite to provide safety demos to parents and kids on safe boating. Radio Disney will broadcast from the event and have free gifts/prizes at their booth for the kids. PLUS there will be a HUGE jump house in the shape of a life jacket for kids to play in!
Several other sponsor displays and “Fun Zones” will be available for kids to participate in during this Fun/Safety fair, all of which will be free of charge to all kids in attendance. Some include:

Emergency Response Team Training to the Bayview District beginning on
Thursday, July 23.

June 30, 2009-Assault w/bleech, Carrying Concealed Weapon, Possession of
Air Gun-12:00-Palou/Jennings-CN#090665755:
Members of Bayview’s housing team responded to a call regarding a Muni
bus driver who had bleach thrown in his face by a juvenile passenger.
The victim was not seriously injured during the incident.
Officers searching the area for the suspects detained four juveniles who
matched the description of the culprits. The juveniles were detained
and the officers discovered that one of the suspects had a BB rifle
suspended from a rope beneath his jacket. The individual with the BB
gun was taken into custody and the others were released.
June 29, 2009-Terrorist Threats, Warrant Arrest-2:57pm-1600 blk of
Davidson-CN#090662767:
Officers Hargreaves and Misaghi responded to a store regarding a
customer threatening an employee. The officers separated the subjects
and spoke with the victim who stated that the suspect threatened to blow
up the store and shoot him in the head. The victim called for police.
As the officers placed the suspect under arrest, he yelled at the
victim, “I am gonna come back and get you!” While transporting the
suspect back to Bayview Station, he also threatened the officers.
June 30, 2009-Robbery, w/force-5:02pm-100 blk of Westpoint
Rd-CN#090599007:
Members of Bayview’s housing team received information from a robbery
inspector regarding a wanted suspect. Officers were in the area of
Westpoint Rd when they saw several of the suspects. Officers called for
additional units and together they took the suspects into custody.

spray-6:05pm-LaSalle/Osceola-CN#090667240:
Officers Graves and Johnson were dispatched to a call regarding an
aggravated assault. Officers arrived on scene and found a Medic who was
attending to a victim who had been sprayed with pepper spray. The
victim’s friend told officers that she and the victim had exited the
Muni bus on LaSalle and was walking towards her house when an unknown
subject jumped out of a car and pepper sprayed the victim in the face.
After the attack, the suspect got back into the car and drove off.
Officers searched the area for the suspect to no avail.

Potrero-CN#090666888:
Officers McCormick and Skaug responded to a store regarding an employee
who was stealing from the daily deposits. The store manager called the
bank and discovered several deposits were missing. Officers spoke with
the suspect, who gave officers a full confession. The suspect was placed
under arrest and transported to Bayview Station.
June 28, 2009-Aggravated Assault w/gun-8:00pm-3rd/Quesada-CN#090662911:
Officer Fuentes and Training Officer Johnson responded to SFGH
regarding a walk-in gunshot victim. Officers spoke to the victim, who
stated that he was shot last night near the corner of 3rd/Quesada. The
victim further stated that he did not go to the hospital until today
because he did not have a way to get there. Officers went back to the
area where the victim was shot, but found no evidence, witnesses or
other victims.

June 30, 2009-Robbery w/gun-1:11 pm-1700 blk of LaSalle-CN#090664412:
Officers Cloud and Gritsch responded to LaSalle regarding a robbery
incident. The officers spoke with the victim, who stated that he was
walking to the front door of his house when someone called out to him.
The victim turned around and was confronted by a gun toting suspect who
demanded the victim’s money and then threatened to shoot him. The
victim quickly jumped behind his security gate and the suspect ran from
the area. The victim was not injured during the incident. A robbery
inspector responded and took over the investigation.

get her purse back, to no avail. The suspect ran from the area, with
the victim’s purse. The victim was not injured during the incident.

Entry made through a broken front door lock. Loss was a money order,
money and a gold chain.

MAYOR NEWSOM LAUNCHES SUMMER JOBS FOR YOUTH
Newsom’s plan will create 1,400 jobs for youth under 18 years old
San Francisco—Mayor Gavin Newsom today launched the Summer Empowerment &
Employment Development (SEED) Program. SEED will provide education and
training to inspire youth to become advocates in their communities. This
includes job training, mentoring, attending workshops, a community
service project, and supporting the City’s summer lunch program for
children and youth living in public housing sites.
“Traditionally, summer is the time when the majority of young people
have their first work experience, and SEED is a creative way to provide
that opportunity,” said Mayor Newsom. “Young people must have the
opportunity to work, thrive, and to contribute to the vitality of the
local economy, and in some cases their own family’s economic survival.
Part-time work experience for high school students leads to more
confidence in
their abilities, better time management skills, and enhanced academic
success.”
Despite economic and fiscal challenges, the City will continue funding
on-going youth employment initiatives. This summer 1,400 slots for youth
under 18 years old will be made available via DCYF funded initiatives,
such as the Mayor’s Youth Employment and Education Program (MYEEP) (675
slots), New Directions (220 slots) which targets youth engaged in the
juvenile justice system, Workreation (157 slots), and Youth Works (200
slots), amongst others. SEED is a pilot program during summer 2009,
initiated by the Department of Children, Youth and Their Families (DCYF)
and the San Francisco Housing Authority (SFHA). The two agencies
together will provide $131,000 to develop this program, which will
employ and educate the 30 youth at 14 public housing sites throughout
San Francisco over the course of 10 weeks, from June 15 through August
21, 2009.
The 14 adults hired will provide mentorship and supervision to the
youth. The Japanese Community Youth Council (JCYC) serves as the
administrative and fiscal agency and will provide technical support as
needed. Each hired adults will work 17.5 hours per week for 9 weeks @
$11 per hour, which equates to approximately
$1800 for the duration of the program. Each hired youth will work 20
hours per week for 10 weeks @ $9.79 per hour, which equates to
approximately $2000 for the duration of the program.
The 14 SFHA Sites are:
Alemany, Ping Yuen & Ping Yuen North, Westbrook & Hunters Point East,
Alice Griffith, Robert Pitts Apartments, Westside Court, Bernal Plaza
East, North Beach Place, Hayes Valley, North & South Portrero Annex &
Terrace, Valencia Gardens, Hunters View, and Sunnydale
Today, Mayor Newsom also announced the expansion of DCYF’s Summer Lunch
Program from 6 SFHA sites to 14. The expansion will provide lunch to
potentially 3,979 youth 18-years old and younger, 5-days a week,
throughout the duration of the 10-week summer. The expansion of the
Summer Lunch Program is a reflection of the HOPE SF commitment to
connect new and increased resources to disconnected and isolated
communities. Mayor Newsom made today’s announcement in the
Bayview-Hunters Point district of San Francisco, at the Hunters View
public housing complex.

June 14, 2009-Base Rock Cocaine for sale, Transportation of Cocaine,
Parole Violation-7:17pm-1200 blk of Egbert-CN#090611736:
Members of Bayview’s plainclothes team were in the area of Egbert and
Jennings when they saw two people that they know from numerous prior
contacts, engaged in a drug transaction. Officers detained both and
arrested one after an initial investigation. The suspect, who is on
parole, was sent back to prison.
June 13, 2009-Carjacking w/dangerous weapon-2:39pm-800 blk of
Barneveld-CN#090608028:
Members of Bayview’s plainclothes team responded to the area of Silver
and Girard regarding a stolen vehicle, obtained in a carjacking incident
and the suspect, who was wanted for the carjacking. Officers watched as
the suspect entered the vehicle and started the car. Officers placed the
main suspect and one other into custody without incident. Officers
detained one other subject, but released her after an initial
investigation. Officers also discovered that the suspects they had in
custody were wanted for kidnapping as well.
June 12, 2009-Terrorist Threats-12:04pm-1400 blk of
Illinois-CN#090604474:
Officers Hastings and Viera responded to a business regarding a threats
report. The officers met with the victim who told them that a known
suspect had been making death threats to the victim and his son. The
officers responded back to the business when the victim called a second
time stating that the suspect was on the premise. Officers took the
suspect into custody, without incident.
June 12, 2009-Disturbing The Peace, Attempting to take weapon from
Police Officer, Resisting, Delaying Police-11:10pm-800 blk of 22
St-CN#090606935:
Officers Cowhig, Cader, and Burkhart responded to a disturbing the peace
call. The officers recognized one of the subjects from a prior arrest
and advised the subject that he would be patted down for weapons, which
he has been known to use. Officers attempted to search the subject who
resisted officers and attempted to take one of the officer’s baton. The
subject was unable to get the baton and officers had to use force to
take him into custody. Officers also observed that the suspect had been
drinking and smelled of alcohol. No one was injured during the
incident.

June 13, 2009-Robbery w/knife-10:05am-Felton St-CN#090607183:
An elderly victim was robbed by two suspects in a parking lot area. The
victim told officers that he was on his way to Walgreens when two
suspects approached him, brandished a knife at him and demanded his keys
and wallet. The victim fought the suspects and the suspects fled the
area without getting any of the victim’s belongings. The victim was not
injured during the incident. A robbery unit is handling the case.
June 12, 2009-Robbery w/gun-8:58pm-Pennsylvania/22nd-CN#090605808:
A victim was robbed by two unknown suspects as he was walking on
Pennsylvania from 22nd Ave. The victim told officers that two subjects
stopped him, put a gun to his head, and demanded money. The victim, in
fear for his life, gave the suspects his belongings. The suspect, after
completing the robbery, turned and faced the victim, with the gun in
hand. The victim was able to get a good look at the gun and advised
officers of its make and model. The suspects fled on foot after the
incident. The victim was not injured.
June 12, 2009-Robbery w/gun-8:10pm-3RD/Marin-CN#090605864:
A victim was robbed by two suspects while waiting for a train on the
Muni platform. The victim told the officers that a group of eight
juveniles walked up to him and demanded his cell phone. The victim
replied, “Hell no, I ain’t giving you my stuff.” One of the suspects
pulled out a gun and hit the victim on the head, while taking the cell
phone out of the victim’s hand. The remainder of the suspects stood by
and watched as this happened. All of the suspects fled the area after
the incident. The victim refused treatment and stated he was not
injured.
June 12, 2009-Robbery w/gun-12:01am-17th/Deharo-CN#090604719:
A victim was robbed of his cash, wallet, headphones camera game boy,
game cards, cell phone and mp3 player while at the bus stop. The victim
told officers that as he was seated inside the bus shelter, reading a
book, two suspects walked by the bus stop. Five minutes later, the
suspects returned, pointed a gun at him and told him, “Give it up, give
me the bag.” The victim gave the suspects his bag and wallet. The
victim was not injured during the incident.
June 11, 2009-Robbery w/force-10:00pm-Oakdale/Palou-CN#090610374:
A victim was robbed of an i-pod touch phone while on the Muni T Line.
The victim told officers that he was on the T line writing an email when
an unknown suspect came up to him and took his ipod from his hands. The
suspect jumped off the train when it pulled into the stop at Palou and
Oakdale. The victim was not injured during the incident.

coordinator. Each month she collects surveys from the various beat
officers to report graffiti to DPW and our own Graffiti Unit within the

What is 311? 311 is a toll free, NON-EMERGENCY phone number that the
public can call to access information about government services. A live
customer service representative will be available 24 hours a day, seven
days a week, and 365 days a year. The service is available to both wired

311 employees will be able to provide translations services in more than
145 languages and dialects and will employ a diverse staff of customer

Summer is Here!!!
Summer SAFEty Tips, from SF SAFE
The Summer months are here... school is out... vacations are planned...
and many of us are spending more time outdoors. Below are a few tips so
that you can have an enjoyable and safe summer!
* School is out! More kids and students will be outside. Be aware of
pedestrians and bicyclists while driving; keep bicycles securely locked
when not in use; always wear a helmet! Ensure that your own kids are
safe while you are at work - plan activities for them during the day.
* If you plan to travel or go on vacation , be sure to keep your home's
doors and windows securely locked, suspend newspaper and mail
deliveries, use alternating timed lights in your house, and have a
trusted neighbor keep an eye out for any suspicious activities.
* Personal Safety while enjoying the outdoors - always be aware of your
surroundings: if you run or walk, do it in well-lit, well-populated
areas; carry identification with you, as well as a whistle or other
noise-making device; try to run with a friend; and if you use an iPod or
other music device, keep only one earbud in your ear so that your
hearing is not completely obstructed.
* Do not leave anything visible in your car . Even a jacket or spare
change may be valuable to a thief.
* If you plan to spend time in crowded or touristy areas , avoid
becoming a victim of pickpocketing by being aware of your surroundings
and only keeping a small amount of cash and credit cards on you.
Have a SAFE and enjoyable Summer!

June 7, 2009-Warrant Arrest-8:20pm-3rd/Oakdale-CN#090586850:
Officers Johnson and Paul were in the area of 3rd and Newcomb when they
saw a person driving a car that had several long objects hanging from
the rear view mirror. The officers pulled the vehicle over and spoke
with the driver, who turned out to be wanted for a parole violation.
Officers placed the suspect into custody and transported him to Bayview
Station for booking.
June 6, 2009-Robbery, w/force-2:30pm-2500 blk of Hawes st-CN#090582751:
Officers Robinson and Whitfield were in the area of Hawes and Fitzgerald
when they were flagged down by a civilian regarding a robbery that had
just occurred. They located the victim who advised that an unknown
person, on a bicycle had just robbed her of her wallet, fast pass,
credit cards, id card and money. The suspect also punched the victim,
but she was not seriously injured and did not require medical attention.
Officers from the plainclothes unit located the suspect a short distance
away. The victim positively identified the suspect as the one who
robbed and hit her. The suspect was placed under arrest and transported
to the Juvenile Justice Center for booking.
June 6, 2009-Firearm w/altered identification, Gun loaded, Resisting,
Delaying Peace Officers-7:04pm-900 blk of Connecticut-CN#090583442:
Members of Bayview’s plainclothes team were in the area of Wisconsin and
25th St when they saw a person that they know from prior contacts,
loitering in the area. Officers attempted to speak with the subject,
who took off running. Officers chased after the subject, who dropped a
magazine portion of a gun, as he ran. Officer Kirchner stopped and
recovered the magazine, then continued running after the suspect.
Officer Rodatos located the gun, which had dropped to the ground when
the suspect went over a chain link fence. Officers Hunt and Lyons
joined in the foot pursuit of the suspect and were able to take him into
custody without any further incident. The suspect was transported to
Bayview Station where he was interviewed and confessed to having the
gun. The suspect was booked at Bayview Station and transported to County
Jail.
June 5, 2009-Firearm, while Possessing a controlled Substance, Warrant
Arrest-CN#090579281:
Members of Bayview’s plainclothes team went to the area of
Harbor/Northridge to search for a known wanted suspect, who is a
validated member of a street gang. Officer Jackson, of the Gang Task
Force, advised officers that the suspect had an outstanding warrant for
his arrest. Officers went to the area and located the suspect, standing
outside of his residence. Officers detained the suspect and located a
firearm and suspected narcotics on his person. The suspect was arrested
without incident and transported to Bayview station, where members of
the Gang Task Force interviewed the suspect, took pictures of the gun
and of the suspects other possessions.
June 5, 2009-Driving while under the influence of Alcohol-Parole
Violation-Traffic Violation
arrest-12:44pm-25TH/Connecticut-CN#090579269:
Officers Hargreaves and Mishagi were traveling in the area of
Connecticut St when they saw a car go through a posted stop sign.
Officers pulled the car over and were about to make contact with the
driver, when the subject’s car rolled down the hill and slammed into the
police car. The officers immediately made contact with the driver, who
smelled of alcohol and could not stand on his own. The subject was
arrested and transported to a facility for a breath test, which he
failed. Officers discovered that the suspect was also on Parole, which
earned him a bus ride back to prison. The passenger of the subjects’
vehicle complained of pain and was seen by a medic, but was released at
the scene. No officers were injured during the accident.

June 8, 2009-Carjacking w/gun-Stolen Auto-12:44am-Dakota
st-CN#090587466:
Officers Thompson and Cabuntala responded to the 1800 blk of 25th St
regarding a report of a carjacking. Officers spoke with the victim who
stated that she was stopped on Dakota St, when an unknown subject
pointed a shotgun at the victim, through the car window, and ordered her
from the vehicle. The victim, fearful for her safety, complied and gave
the car to the suspect, who jumped in and drove away. The victim ran
home and called police. Officers searched for the suspect and the
vehicle, to no avail. No one was injured during the incident.
June 7, 2009-Robbery, ST. w/force-9:45pm-Bayshore/Cortland-CN#090586979:
Officers Mora and Macias responded to Bayshore Blvd regarding a report
of a fight in progress. The officers met with and spoke to the victim
who stated that he was waiting for the bus when three unknown subjects
surrounded him, grabbed him in a “bear hug” from behind and told the
victim to “break yourself.” The victim was punched several times by the
one of the suspects and fell to the ground. The victim got back up and
noticed that his backpack was gone, as well as the suspects. The victim
told officers that he was not seriously hurt and did not require medical
attention. Officers searched the area for the suspects, to no avail.
June 7, 2009-Robbery, w/gun-12:30pm-Nichols Way-CN#090584359:
Officers Kavanagh and Johnson responded to SFGH regarding a walk-in
shooting victim. Officers spoke with the victim who was suffering from
a gunshot wound to his hand. The victim explained that he was outside
of his house when his son approached him and told him that two suspects
attempted to rob him at gun point. The victim went to the area where
the incident occurred and heard several gun shots, then felt a pain in
his hand. The victim wrapped up his hand and drove himself to SFGH.
An Inspector from the Robbery detail responded and took over the
investigation, which is still on-going.
June 5, 2009-Robbery, w/force-10:10pm-Ledyard St-CN#090580909:
Officers Fong and Lee responded to Ledyard St regarding an assault. The
officers met with and spoke to the victim, who stated that he had been
beaten up and robbed by three unknown suspects. The victim told
officers that he did not lose consciousness. A medic responded, treated
the victim and transported him to SFGH. Officers searched the area, to
no avail.

his arrest. Officers went to the area and located the suspect, standing
outside of his residence. Officers detained the suspect and located a
firearm and suspected narcotics on his person. The suspect was arrested
without incident and transported to Bayview station, where members of
the Gang Task Force interviewed the suspect, took pictures of the gun
and of the suspects other possessions.
June 5, 2009-Driving while under the influence of Alcohol-Parole
Violation-Traffic Violation

Officers Hargreaves and Mishagi were traveling in the area of
Connecticut St when they saw a car go through a posted stop sign.
Officers pulled the car over and were about to make contact with the
driver, when the subject’s car rolled down the hill and slammed into the
police car. The officers immediately made contact with the driver, who
smelled of alcohol and could not stand on his own. The subject was
arrested and transported to a facility for a breath test, which he
failed. Officers discovered that the suspect was also on Parole, which
earned him a bus ride back to prison. The passenger of the subjects’
vehicle complained of pain and was seen by a medic, but was released at
the scene. No officers were injured during the accident.

Officers Thompson and Cabuntala responded to the 1800 blk of 25th St
regarding a report of a carjacking. Officers spoke with the victim who
stated that she was stopped on Dakota St, when an unknown subject
pointed a shotgun at the victim, through the car window, and ordered her
from the vehicle. The victim, fearful for her safety, complied and gave
the car to the suspect, who jumped in and drove away. The victim ran
home and called police. Officers searched for the suspect and the
vehicle, to no avail. No one was injured during the incident.
June 7, 2009-Robbery, ST. w/force-9:45pm-Bayshore/Cortland-CN#090586979:
Officers Mora and Macias responded to Bayshore Blvd regarding a report
of a fight in progress. The officers met with and spoke to the victim
who stated that he was waiting for the bus when three unknown subjects
surrounded him, grabbed him in a “bear hug” from behind and told the
victim to “break yourself.” The victim was punched several times by the
one of the suspects and fell to the ground. The victim got back up and
noticed that his backpack was gone, as well as the suspects. The victim
told officers that he was not seriously hurt and did not require medical
attention. Officers searched the area for the suspects, to no avail.
June 7, 2009-Robbery, w/gun-12:30pm-Nichols Way-CN#090584359:
Officers Kavanagh and Johnson responded to SFGH regarding a walk-in
shooting victim. Officers spoke with the victim who was suffering from
a gunshot wound to his hand. The victim explained that he was outside
of his house when his son approached him and told him that two suspects
attempted to rob him at gun point. The victim went to the area where
the incident occurred and heard several gun shots, then felt a pain in
his hand. The victim wrapped up his hand and drove himself to SFGH.
An Inspector from the Robbery detail responded and took over the
investigation, which is still on-going.
June 5, 2009-Robbery, w/force-10:10pm-Ledyard St-CN#090580909:
Officers Fong and Lee responded to Ledyard St regarding an assault. The
officers met with and spoke to the victim, who stated that he had been
beaten up and robbed by three unknown suspects. The victim told
officers that he did not lose consciousness. A medic responded, treated
the victim and transported him to SFGH. Officers searched the area, to
no avail.

The architects for the new Bayview library have asked for community input for the exterior art panels that will be inspired by the history of the Bayview on the sides of the new branch (see attachment). Please send in images related to the history of Bayview Hunters Point or some themes (shipyards, 1966 riot, African American migration , Ohlone history, Chinese presence, etc.) that might be depicted. presentation about her life and works at this little-known Morgan
church, built in 1923. The church is also celebrating the 103rd
anniversary of its organizing.

Proceeds will benefit the Visitacion Valley library fund and St. James

Neighborhood Watch Success Story
What makes a SAFE Neighborhood Watch group successful? Well, to the
team here at SAFE, we think that just starting a Neighborhood Watch
group is a success! Sometimes people can be too busy or too reluctant to
take an active role in organizing their block and making it safer. But
even just a few persistent and focused residents can prove to ignite a
local effort in starting an organized network of neighbors. Overcoming
the hurdle of motivating others to become involved is a success. After
that, only more successes are sure to follow.
Neighbors around 19th and Capp streets are taking initiative to see less
crime and violence in their neighborhood... and to stay informed. They
contacted SAFE, and with the help of Jon Shepherd, they started a
Neighborhood Watch group. After only a few months of meeting to discuss
their concerns, they have learned how to take action to make the area
safer. Captain Stephen Tacchini of Mission Station attended their
meetings, and they now have a clearer, more effective, way to
communicate with the police. They also learned how to observe and report
suspicious activities, and were educated on personal safety best
practices. The group now has 60 members, with 9 committees working on
various issues. This Neighborhood Watch group is headed in the right

April 11, 2009-Aggravated Assault w/weapon-11:45pm-200 blk of Missouri
St-CN#090380862:
Officers Doherty and Alvarenga responded to the 200 blk of Missouri
regarding a report of a fight. Officers responded and met with a victim
who told them that he was walking his two dogs when a man began yelling
at him from the second story of a house. The man yelling then came out
to the street and attempted to block the path of the victim and his
dogs. As the victim turned away from the suspect, the suspect picked up
a brick and struck the victim several times, causing a cut to the
victims eye and lip. The victim and the suspect ended wrestling on the
ground. Officers arrived on scene and placed the suspect under arrest.
A medic responded, treated the victim for his injuries and released him
at the scene. The suspect was transported to Bayview Station.
April 11, 2009-Cocaine, Possession for sale, Marijuana
Offense-5:18pm-Palou/Keith-CN#090379702:
Officers Ochoa, Bates, and Dongon were in the area of Palou Ave when
they observed a car in front of them without a back tail light.
Officers pulled the car over, approached the driver and immediately
smelled suspected marijuana. Officers asked the driver if he had drugs
in the car, and he replied “yes”. Officers seized the suspected
marijuana and cocaine. The driver was cited and released. The passenger
was placed under arrest and transported to Bayview Station.
April 10, 2009-Malicious Mischief, Warrant Arrest, Probation
Violation-3:39-1600 blk of Davidson-CN#090375982:
Officers Misaghi and Robinson responded to a call regarding graffiti.
Officers spoke with a reportee who directed them to two suspects
spraying the back fence of the victim’s place of business. Officers
detained both suspects and confiscated the backpacks containing spray
paint cans. Officers also discovered warrants for the suspects. Both
suspects were placed under arrest and transported to Bayview Station.
INCIDENTS OF INTEREST
April 13, 2009-Robbery w/gun-2:12am-100 blk of Silliman-CN#090384331:
Officers Gritsch and Kavanagh responded to Gilman St regarding a
robbery. Officers spoke with a victim, who stated that he had been
walking home form the bus stop when two unknown suspects walked up to
the victim, pulled out a small handgun, and pointed it at the victim.
The victim gave the suspects all his property and was not injured. The
suspects left the area after the robbery and officers were not able to
locate them.
April 12, 2009-Shots fired, Investigative Detention, Resisting Peace
Officers-6:14pm-1400 blk of Revere Ave-CN#090383311:
Officers Pheng and Nevin responded to the area of Kieth and Revere
regarding a possible shooting. Officers responded to an area where
security had numerous suspects detained. Officers completed an initial
investigation and located bullet casings in a car. Officers arrested a
suspect who interfered with the investigation by challenging one of the
officers to a fight. The vehicle with the bullet casings was towed. No
injured persons were found.
April 13, 2009, Robbery w/gun-1:00pm-Innes/Griffith-CN#090382711:
Members of Bayviews housing team were in the area of Northridge Road
regarding a robbery where a gun was used. Officers spoke with a victim
and the victim’s mother. The victim told officers that she was waiting
for a bus, listening to her ipod, when an unknown suspect came up behind
her and told her to give her all of her stuff and money. The victim
told the suspect that she did not have any money, so the suspect pulled
a gun out of her backpack and told her to give up her ipod, which the
victim did out of fear. The suspect took the ipod and ran into the
nearby housing development. The victim was not injured. Officers were
unable to locate the suspect.
April 12, 2009, Aggravated Assault w/gun-4:43pm-Harbor Rd-CN#090382987:
Members of Bayviews housing team were in the area of Harbor Road
regarding a shooting victim. Officers found the victim, behind an
apartment with two gunshot wounds. Officers called for an ambulance,
while Officer Bates tended to the victims injuries. Officers attempted
to find witnesses, but out of the numerous persons at the scene, no one
came forward with any information. Officers contacted Gang Task Force,
who took over the investigation. The victim was transported to SFGH and
was listed in stable condition.

Arrest of interest:
April 11, 2009-Aggravated Assault w/weapon-11:45pm-200 blk of Missouri
St-CN#090380862:
Officers Doherty and Alvarenga responded to the 200 blk of Missouri
regarding a report of a fight. Officers responded and met with a victim
who told them that he was walking his two dogs when a man began yelling
at him from the second story of a house. The man yelling then came out
to the street and attempted to block the path of the victim and his
dogs. As the victim turned away from the suspect, the suspect picked up
a brick and struck the victim several times, causing a cut to the
victims eye and lip. The victim and the suspect ended wrestling on the
ground. Officers arrived on scene and placed the suspect under arrest.
A medic responded, treated the victim for his injuries and released him
at the scene. The suspect was transported to Bayview Station.
April 11, 2009-Cocaine, Possession for sale, Marijuana
Offense-5:18pm-Palou/Keith-CN#090379702:
Officers Ochoa, Bates, and Dongon were in the area of Palou Ave when
they observed a car in front of them without a back tail light.
Officers pulled the car over, approached the driver and immediately
smelled suspected marijuana. Officers asked the driver if he had drugs
in the car, and he replied “yes”. Officers seized the suspected
marijuana and cocaine. The driver was cited and released. The passenger
was placed under arrest and transported to Bayview Station.
April 10, 2009-Malicious Mischief, Warrant Arrest, Probation
Violation-3:39-1600 blk of Davidson-CN#090375982:
Officers Misaghi and Robinson responded to a call regarding graffiti.
Officers spoke with a reportee who directed them to two suspects
spraying the back fence of the victim’s place of business. Officers
detained both suspects and confiscated the backpacks containing spray
paint cans. Officers also discovered warrants for the suspects. Both
suspects were placed under arrest and transported to Bayview Station.
INCIDENTS OF INTEREST
April 13, 2009-Robbery w/gun-2:12am-100 blk of Silliman-CN#090384331:
Officers Gritsch and Kavanagh responded to Gilman St regarding a
robbery. Officers spoke with a victim, who stated that he had been
walking home form the bus stop when two unknown suspects walked up to
the victim, pulled out a small handgun, and pointed it at the victim.
The victim gave the suspects all his property and was not injured. The
suspects left the area after the robbery and officers were not able to
locate them.
April 12, 2009-Shots fired, Investigative Detention, Resisting Peace
Officers-6:14pm-1400 blk of Revere Ave-CN#090383311:
Officers Pheng and Nevin responded to the area of Kieth and Revere
regarding a possible shooting. Officers responded to an area where
security had numerous suspects detained. Officers completed an initial
investigation and located bullet casings in a car. Officers arrested a
suspect who interfered with the investigation by challenging one of the
officers to a fight. The vehicle with the bullet casings was towed. No
injured persons were found.
April 13, 2009, Robbery w/gun-1:00pm-Innes/Griffith-CN#090382711:
Members of Bayviews housing team were in the area of Northridge Road
regarding a robbery where a gun was used. Officers spoke with a victim
and the victim’s mother. The victim told officers that she was waiting
for a bus, listening to her ipod, when an unknown suspect came up behind
her and told her to give her all of her stuff and money. The victim
told the suspect that she did not have any money, so the suspect pulled
a gun out of her backpack and told her to give up her ipod, which the
victim did out of fear. The suspect took the ipod and ran into the
nearby housing development. The victim was not injured. Officers were
unable to locate the suspect.
April 12, 2009, Aggravated Assault w/gun-4:43pm-Harbor Rd-CN#090382987:
Members of Bayviews housing team were in the area of Harbor Road
regarding a shooting victim. Officers found the victim, behind an
apartment with two gunshot wounds. Officers called for an ambulance,
while Officer Bates tended to the victims injuries. Officers attempted
to find witnesses, but out of the numerous persons at the scene, no one
came forward with any information. Officers contacted Gang Task Force,
who took over the investigation. The victim was transported to SFGH and
was listed in stable condition.

Entry made through a kitchen window. Loss was a playstation, and a
laptop.

Members of Bayview’s housing team were in the area of Northridge when
they saw a known subject who had an outstanding warrant for his arrest.
Officers located the suspect inside his car and placed him under arrest
for his warrant.
March 5, 2009-Warrant Arrest-9:27am-3rd/McKinnon-CN#090234071:
Officers Soares and Doherty were in the area of 3rd /McKinnon when they
saw an individual who was wanted for a parole violation. Officers
detained the subject. The subject was placed under arrest for the
warrant and transported back to prison.
March 5, 2009-Base rock cocaine, Aggravated assault w/gun-3:00pm-1000
Potrero Ave-CN#090234946:
Officers Ng and Correa responded to S.F.G.H. regarding a shooting
victim, who had been driven to the hospital by his girlfriend. Officers
searched the vehicle and found numerous items of evidence and suspected
narcotics. The girlfriend was detained and transported to C.A.R.C.
March 3, 2009-Suspicious Occurrence, Cocaine for sale-6:35pm-Keith
/Thomas-CN#090228353:
Members of Bayview’s plainclothes team responded to Kieth and Thomas
regarding subjects drinking and selling drugs out of a parked car.
Officers detained the occupants of the car, searched it and found a
shotgun, shotgun shells, and suspected crack cocaine, which was located
by a police dog. Officers placed the driver of the vehicle under arrest
and transported him to Bayview Station.

Officer Lee and Officer Balingit responded to Ceres St regarding a
“Shotspotter” activation. Officers arrived on scene and found a shell
casing, but were unable to determine if it was related to this
activation. Officers were unable to locate any victims or suspects.

Officer Dizon and Officer Kavanaugh responded to the 2000 blk of Jerrold
regarding an attempted robbery at gun point. Officers spoke with the
victim who stated that he was parked in his cab when an unknown suspect
reached his arm through the front passenger window and unlocked the
door. The suspect jumped in the taxi and pointed a small gun at the
victim. The suspect and the victim got into a wrestling match inside of
the taxi, which resulted in the suspect being pushed out of the cab.
The victim told officers that the suspect fired a shot into the air,
then jumped into a car and sped away. Officers located a casing in the
area. The victim suffered a bump on his head from the suspect hitting
him with the gun. The victim refused medical treatment.

The San Francisco Police Activities League Law Enforcement Cadet Program
is currently accepting applications for PAL Cadets. The purpose of the
PAL Cadet Program is to provide an opportunity for young men and women

ARRESTS OF INTEREST:
March 3, 2009-Possession of Gun by a prohibited person, Probation
Violation, Gang Related-4:17pm-4000 blk of 3RD ST-CN#090227913:
Members of the Tactical Plainclothes Unit were conducting violence
reduction operations in the area of 3rd and Kirkwood in response to
recent high levels of gang activity. The officers saw a known
individual standing with a group of subjects, in front of a liquor
store. The individual saw officers approach and immediately walked into
the liquor store. Sgt. Benzinger followed the subject inside the store
and watched as the subject placed an object on a shelf. Officers
detained the subject and searched the area, locating a loaded firearm on
the shelf. Officers placed the suspect under arrest without incident.
March 3, 2009-Warrant Arrest, Outside Jurisdiction-9:15pm-900 blk of
Innes-CN#090628927:
Officers Borgen and Officer Chiang responded to a call of shots fired on
Innes Avenue. Headquarters advised that there were approximately six
shots heard. Officers spoke with a reportee who stated that one of the
shots had gone through her window. Officers then saw two subjects
walking down the stairs near the area where the gun shots were heard.
Officers detained the subjects, but were unable to confirm any
involvement in the shooting. One of the subjects, who had an
outstanding warrant for his arrest, was placed into custody without
incident. No one was injured during the shooting.
March 3, 2009-Warrant Arrest, Heroin
Offense-6:48pm-3rd/Newcomb-CN#090228369:
Members of Bayview’s plain clothes team were in the area of 3rd/Newcomb,
when they saw a subject they know, drinking a bottle of beer in front of
the liquor store. Officers spoke with the subject and discovered an
outstanding warrant for his arrest. The suspect was placed under arrest
for the warrant and for the suspected heroin officers discovered on him.
INCIDENTS OF INTEREST:
March 3, 2009- Aggravated Assault w/force, Breaking Window-4:24pm-1100
blk of Ingerson-CN#090227991:
Officers Williams and Whitfield responded to the 1100 blk of Ingerson
regarding a report of vandalism involving a knife. Officers spoke with
the reportee who stated that he was inside of a house that he was
repairing for the property owners, when a former tenant came inside the
house. The reportee stated that the ex-tenant took out a large knife,
began swinging at the reportee and then pushed him towards the front
door in an attempt to get him out of the house. The reportee fled from
the house in fear of the ex-tenant and did not return until he saw the
suspect leave the house. Upon his return, the reportee saw that the
suspect had broken all the windows in the house. Officers were unable
to locate the suspect. No one was injured during the incident.
March 3, 2009-Malicious Mischief, Vandalism to Property-1:45am-100 blk
of Tunnel-CN#090228115:
Officer McArthur and Officer Reiter responded to Tunnel Ave regarding a
report of vandalism. Officers spoke with the reportee who stated that a
known suspect had placed glue inside the lock of the gate to her house.
The reportee also stated that because of the glue in the lock, the gate
would no longer operate. The reportee told police that she believes the
incident occurred due to her owing the suspect money. The suspect was
not located.
March 2, 2009-Tampering with fire protection equiptment-2:00pm-Conkling
St.-CN#090226313:
School Resource Officer Richards cited a student for pulling the fire
alarm at school. The witness told Officer Richards that he saw the
student running from the lunch room shortly after the alarm went off.
Officer Richards admonished the student regarding pulling the fire
alarm, which she fully confessed to doing. Officer Richards met with
the student and her mother and informed her that the student would be
placed under arrest and sent to C.A.R.C. Center. The student was cited
and released from C.A.R.C.

The Police Commission is currently engaged in a search for candidates
for the next Chief of the San Francisco Police Department and is about
to retain an executive search firm to assist in that effort. The
Commission will be conducting a series of special "Town Hall" style
community meetings to receive suggestions and comments regarding the
Commission's search for Police Chief candidates. The meetings currently

Arbor Week – March 2009
Mayor Newsom’s Trees for Tomorrow Program will plant 25,000 trees by
Arbor Day 2009. Fun-filled Arbor Day Activities will include a
reforestation effort in which volunteers will plant 300 trees, and a
Green Resource Fair. Also, there will be activities for children
including: story time and arts and crafts.

February 22, 2009-Warrant Arrest, Resisting Officers-8:50pm-800 Blk of
Jamestown-CN#090194478:
Members of the Tactical Unit received information from other officers
regarding a wanted individual. Officers responded to the location and
saw a vehicle pull away. Believing this was the suspect they were
looking for they pulled the vehicle over, only to find another subject
driving. Officers released the driver and responded back to the
original location where they found the suspect. Officers took the
wanted suspect into custody, without incident.
February 21, 2009-Possession of Methamphetamine for sale, Narcotics
Paraphernalia-1:11am-Bayshore/Cortland-CN#090188268:
Officer Borghesani and Officer Rodriguez were in the area of Bayshore
and Courtland when they saw a vehicle make an illegal u-turn in the
middle of the street. Officers pulled the vehicle over and spoke with
the driver, who also had an outstanding warrant for his arrest.
Officers conducted a search and found suspected Crystal meth and
numerous pills of Kadian. Officers placed the driver under arrest and
towed his car.
February 21, 2009-Grand Theft Auto, Conspiracy-5:10pm-1500 blk of
Bayshore- CN#090190649:
Officer McArthur and Officer Borgen responded to a call regarding a
truck that had been stolen off of a lot. Officers spoke with the victim
who stated that he had parked the truck inside of a lot and went inside.
After a while he came out to the lot and saw a suspect drive off in the
truck. Members of the plainclothes team responded and located the truck
and the suspect. The victim was able to positively identify the suspect
that officers had placed under arrest.
February 20, 2009 – Possession of Methamphetamine for Sales, Illegal
Possession of Firearms, Warrant Arrest – 1000 Blk Ingerson
Members of the Ceasefire Team located a wanted suspect on the 1000-Block
of Ingerson. Follow-up investigation revealed the suspect to be in
possession of methamphetamine, heroin and two firearms. Suspect booked
at Bayview Station.
INCIDENTS OF INTEREST:
February 23, 2009-Shots fired-2:52am-1400 blk of Innes-CN#090195003:
Officer Fong and Officer Kavanagh responded to the 1400 blk of Innes
regarding a possible shooting. Headquarters advised that the
Shotspotter System had picked up numerous shots fired in that area.
Officers on scene recovered numerous casings in the area. No victims or
suspects were located.
February 21, 2009-Shooting into a house-12:40pm-Northridge
road-CN#090189175:
Members of Bayview’s housing team responded to Northridge Road regarding
a shooting. Officers met with the victim who showed officers a bullet
hole in her upstairs bedroom window. The victim stated that she did not
hear any shots and did not know who may have done this. No one was
injured during the shooting. No suspects were located.
February 20, 2009-Aggravated Assault w/other weapon, Terrorist
Threats-6:30pm-400 blk of Mansell-CN#090187301:
Police Service Aid Luk, took a report regarding two suspects that
sprayed pepper spray at a victim and threatened to kill her, after a
high school basketball game. The suspects then fled the area. Officers
arrived on scene regarding another fight in the area, but did not locate
the suspects with the pepper spray. The officers did locate another
victim of the pepper spray, but that victim refused medical treatment
and left the scene. No suspects were located. No one else was injured
during the incidents.
February 19, 2009-Theft from a
person-4:00pm-Bayshore/Blanken-CN#090186682:
A citizen came into Bayview Station to report that a suspect had taken
her backpack when she fell asleep on a MUNI bus. The victim stated that
her id, paystub, check card and miscellaneous papers were taken. The
victim was not injured during the theft. The suspect was not located.

Day Watch Sergeant, Ava Garrick, is Bayview Station’s Graffiti Abatement
coordinator. Each month she collects surveys from the various beat
officers to report graffiti to DPW and our own Graffiti Unit within the

What is 311? 311 is a toll free, NON-EMERGENCY phone number that the
public can call to access information about government services. A live
customer service representative will be available 24 hours a day, seven
days a week, and 365 days a year. The service is available to both wired
and wireless customers. Wireless customers should call (415) 701-2311.
311 employees will be able to provide translations services in more than
145 languages and dialects and will employ a diverse staff of customer
service representatives. TTY users and customers outside San Francisco

Coming Events:
Your input is requested in the search for the new Police Chief
The Police Commission is currently engaged in a search for candidates
for the next Chief of the San Francisco Police Department and is about
to retain an executive search firm to assist in that effort. The
Commission will be conducting a series of special "Town Hall" style
community meetings to receive suggestions and comments regarding the
Commission's search for Police Chief candidates. The meetings currently
scheduled are as follows:

Bayview Community Meeting
Our next monthly community meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, March 3rd,
at 6:00 pm at Bayview Station. Adam Gubser from the Livable Streets
Program will be present to answer questions about traffic in the
district.
Arbor Week – March 2009
Mayor Newsom’s Trees for Tomorrow Program will plant 25,000 trees by
Arbor Day 2009. Fun-filled Arbor Day Activities will include a
reforestation effort in which volunteers will plant 300 trees, and a
Green Resource Fair. Also, there will be activities for children
including: story time and arts and crafts.

ARRESTS OF INTEREST:
February 22, 2009-Warrant Arrest, Resisting Officers-8:50pm-800 Blk of
Jamestown-CN#090194478:
Members of the Tactical Unit received information from other officers
regarding a wanted individual. Officers responded to the location and
saw a vehicle pull away. Believing this was the suspect they were
looking for they pulled the vehicle over, only to find another subject
driving. Officers released the driver and responded back to the
original location where they found the suspect. Officers took the
wanted suspect into custody, without incident.
February 21, 2009-Possession of Methamphetamine for sale, Narcotics
Paraphernalia-1:11am-Bayshore/Cortland-CN#090188268:
Officer Borghesani and Officer Rodriguez were in the area of Bayshore
and Courtland when they saw a vehicle make an illegal u-turn in the
middle of the street. Officers pulled the vehicle over and spoke with
the driver, who also had an outstanding warrant for his arrest.
Officers conducted a search and found suspected Crystal meth and
numerous pills of Kadian. Officers placed the driver under arrest and
towed his car.
February 21, 2009-Grand Theft Auto, Conspiracy-5:10pm-1500 blk of
Bayshore- CN#090190649:
Officer McArthur and Officer Borgen responded to a call regarding a
truck that had been stolen off of a lot. Officers spoke with the victim
who stated that he had parked the truck inside of a lot and went inside.
After a while he came out to the lot and saw a suspect drive off in the
truck. Members of the plainclothes team responded and located the truck
and the suspect. The victim was able to positively identify the suspect
that officers had placed under arrest.
February 20, 2009 – Possession of Methamphetamine for Sales, Illegal
Possession of Firearms, Warrant Arrest – 1000 Blk Ingerson
Members of the Ceasefire Team located a wanted suspect on the 1000-Block
of Ingerson. Follow-up investigation revealed the suspect to be in
possession of methamphetamine, heroin and two firearms. Suspect booked
at Bayview Station.
INCIDENTS OF INTEREST:
February 23, 2009-Shots fired-2:52am-1400 blk of Innes-CN#090195003:
Officer Fong and Officer Kavanagh responded to the 1400 blk of Innes
regarding a possible shooting. Headquarters advised that the
Shotspotter System had picked up numerous shots fired in that area.
Officers on scene recovered numerous casings in the area. No victims or
suspects were located.
February 21, 2009-Shooting into a house-12:40pm-Northridge
road-CN#090189175:
Members of Bayview’s housing team responded to Northridge Road regarding
a shooting. Officers met with the victim who showed officers a bullet
hole in her upstairs bedroom window. The victim stated that she did not
hear any shots and did not know who may have done this. No one was
injured during the shooting. No suspects were located.
February 20, 2009-Aggravated Assault w/other weapon, Terrorist
Threats-6:30pm-400 blk of Mansell-CN#090187301:
Police Service Aid Luk, took a report regarding two suspects that
sprayed pepper spray at a victim and threatened to kill her, after a
high school basketball game. The suspects then fled the area. Officers
arrived on scene regarding another fight in the area, but did not locate
the suspects with the pepper spray. The officers did locate another
victim of the pepper spray, but that victim refused medical treatment
and left the scene. No suspects were located. No one else was injured
during the incidents.
February 19, 2009-Theft from a
person-4:00pm-Bayshore/Blanken-CN#090186682:
A citizen came into Bayview Station to report that a suspect had taken
her backpack when she fell asleep on a MUNI bus. The victim stated that
her id, paystub, check card and miscellaneous papers were taken. The
victim was not injured during the theft. The suspect was not located.

Entry made through a kitchen window. Loss was two computers.
February 21, 2009-5:00pm-100 blk of Topeka-CN#090189670:
Entry made through a living room back window. Loss was a pack of soda’s.
February 20, 2009-4:30pm-1100 blk of Palou-CN#090188525:
Entry made through a front door and window. Loss was money, shoes and
video cameras.
February 20, 2009-8:00pm-Commer Court-CN#090187470:
Entry made through a front iron bars on a kitchen window. Loss was a
flat screen t.v.
February 20, 2009-11:30pm-300 blk of Rhode Island-CN#090189404:
Entry made through a broken window of a school. Loss was two flat
screen t.v.’s and two plasma t.v.’s.
